St. Michaels University School (SMUS) is an international boarding and day school in Victoria, British Columbia, known for its innovative programs and close-knit community, with students and families spread across the globe.
Bringing Campus Life to the World: A Virtual Tour for St. Michaels University School
SMUS needed a way for prospective families, alumni, and staff to explore its campuses without being there in person. With multiple locations including the Junior School in Oak Bay, the Richmond Road campus, and the SMUS Rowing Centre, the challenge was capturing the full scope of the school while making it feel personal and alive, not just a collection of 360° images.
The tour blends panoramic views with candid student photography, video content, and descriptive overlays that highlight daily life at the school. The goal was to go beyond showing facilities and actually communicate what it feels like to be part of the SMUS community. Navigation was designed to be simple and intuitive so that anyone from a prospective 12-year-old student to a grandparent overseas could explore comfortably.
The platform was also built with flexibility in mind. As SMUS renovates buildings and expands programs, the tour can be updated to reflect those changes without rebuilding from scratch. The result is a living recruitment and community tool that stays current as the school evolves.
